BIOLOGY ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB
The World Wide Web has increasingly become a primary means of communicating scientific
information. The Biological sciences have benefited greatly from the use of computers
for computation and visualization, which in turn has resulted in the new discipline of
Bio-informatics. Therefore, as an extension of the philosophy of the WWW Journal of Biology,
we are attempting here to provide links to Biological sites on the WWW. It should be noted
however that many other groups and individuals have been collecting useful links (their sites
are listed below) and there is considerable overlap between several major Biological databases
currently available. To present an exhaustive list of all Biology resources available on the web
would be a duplication of the efforts of others as well as being a task currently outside the
scope of this journal.
In this regard, we have provided links to several sites which contain large compilations of Biology resources on the web. We have also provided links to search engines which are useful for locating
any resource on the WWW. The editors will happily add relevant links to this list. You can
